Terms of service

Version 1.0. Written to be readable, because children use this.

What Korsyl is

A search engine that decides what is safe to show before it sends it. Every account belongs to one age group, worked out from a date of birth, and only sees the slice of the index published to that group.

Accounts

• Adults create their own account and confirm they are 18 or over.
• Children's accounts are created by a parent or guardian, who supplies the date of birth.
• You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself.
• At 18 a child's account detaches automatically and becomes their own.

Age groups cannot be overridden

The boundaries follow Swedish law and apply to every user, wherever they are. Nobody can move a child into a different group early - not us, and not their parent. A parent cannot consent a child past a legal threshold, so we do not offer a button that pretends otherwise.

What we do not list

We do not publish to any age group content that:

• is unlawful under Swedish or EU law;
• sexualises children in any way;
• is pornographic or an adult service, outside the 18+ group;
• is a scam, phishing, or distributes malware;
• encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders;
• misrepresents what it is in order to reach a younger group.

How things get listed

Our crawlers find pages and guess at a category. That guess publishes nothing. A person reviews a page before it appears in any age group. For people aged 15 and over we also show pages nobody has reviewed yet, clearly marked with a warning - those are never shown to younger groups at all.

If you run a website

• Our crawler identifies itself as KorsylBot and respects robots.txt.
• You can apply to be listed, proving you control the domain.
• If we block or miscategorise your site we record a reason, and you can appeal. A person looks at it again.
• Describing your site as something it is not, to reach a younger audience, gets the whole domain blocked.

Reporting something

Every result has a report link, and anyone can use it - account or not. Reports go to a person. They flag a page for review; they never remove it automatically, because otherwise filing enough reports would be a way to empty the index.

Challenging a decision

If we act against your content you get a statement of reasons, and you can contest it through our appeals process, which is handled by a person and not by software. You may also take a dispute to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, or to a court. Using our appeal first does not remove that right.

No advertising

There is no advertising on Korsyl, so there is no advertising profiling - of anyone, and in particular not of the children who use it.

Ending your account

You can delete your account whenever you like from your privacy page. We can suspend or close an account that is used to attack the service or to endanger a child; if we do, we tell you why.
